A destination wedding in Florida feels like sunshine in celebration form. Warm tropical air, swaying palm trees, and that unmistakable sense of being on vacation. The light, the color, the ocean breeze… it all makes the day feel relaxed and full of joy. And finding the right venue is where that magic begins.

Hi, I’m Lilia of Plume and Stone. I’m a Florida based designer creating unique wedding invitations, including the pocket and folder styles many of my couples love. If you’re planning your destination wedding in Florida, I’m excited to share how to choose a location that feels like you. I have included  some of my favorite venues that create unforgettable, personal and beautifully designed celebrations.

Many of my clients have celebrated their weddings at the very venues mentioned in this guide, so I understand how each space inspires everything from your décor to your stationery suite.

Why Florida Is a Dream Destination

Few places capture romance and variety like Florida. Here, you’ll find everything from historic estates and lush gardens to oceanfront resorts with sweeping Atlantic views. South Florida, in particular, offers year-round warmth and a mix of cultures that make every celebration feel special. (It’s impossible not to fall in love with those golden sunsets!).

Couples often choose Florida for its easy access, diverse venues, and relaxed sophistication. Whether your vision leans toward a glamorous Palm Beach soirée or a quiet garden ceremony, you’ll find a space that feels like it was made for your celebration.

Define Your Vision: What Kind of Celebration Do You Want?

Before you start touring venues, pause and think about what kind of experience you want you (and your guests) to have. Do you picture a candlelit dinner under banyan trees? A chic ballroom overlooking the water? Or maybe a coastal garden with soft ocean air and string lights?

Remember that the venue sets the tone for everything that follows, including your invitation design. If your venue is historic and ornate, that might inspire a letterpress suite with elegant serif typography. A breezy, beachside wedding might call for light textures, vellum layers, or soft watercolor details. (We love finding those visual connections early in the design process!)

Location Logistics: Travel, Timing, and Guest Experience

A destination wedding in Florida should feel easy for everyone involved. Look for venues near major airports like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Palm Beach to simplify travel. Many resorts and estates also offer on-site accommodations or nearby hotels, which makes logistics much smoother for guests.

If you’re hosting a full weekend celebration, think about proximity between your ceremony, reception, and any welcome events. Florida’s coastlines are beautiful, but traffic can be tricky in peak season, so choosing a venue with everything in one place is a plus.

Weather and Seasonality: Planning Around Florida’s Climate

The beauty of a destination wedding in Florida comes with a bit of personality, mainly in the form of its tropical climate. The best times for a destination wedding in Florida are typically late fall through early spring when humidity is lower and skies are clear.

For summer weddings, consider late afternoon or evening ceremonies when the light is softer (and the air a little cooler). If you’re dreaming of an outdoor celebration, it’s worth checking if your venue has a covered backup space (just in case a passing rain shower decides to make a quick appearance!).

One of my favorite things about designing for Florida weddings is that we’re not tied to traditional seasons. Because it’s warm and tropical all year, you can choose any palette you love. Soft neutrals, bright tropical colors, sun-washed pastels, even deep dramatic tones. Everything feels at home here, which gives you so much freedom to create a look that truly reflects you.

Venue Style and Aesthetic: Match It to Your Design Vision

The architecture and atmosphere of your venue often shape your wedding’s visual identity. That’s why we love talking design once a couple has found “the one.”

Each setting brings its own inspiration:

  • Modern and Hotel venues often inspire acrylic invitations, whether clear or frosted, for a contemporary look that still feels elegant and personal. Clean lines and minimalist invitation suites printed with sleek silk screen or foil for a hint of shine.
  • Historic estates or European-style properties often call for ornate touches like hand-drawn monograms, metallic foil details, or deep letterpress impressions that feel timeless and sophisticated.
  • Coastal or garden venues pair beautifully with soft deckled edges, translucent vellum layers, and silk or velvet ribbons that capture light, air, and movement.
  • Tropical or outdoor settings often inspire acrylic invitations, whether clear or frosted, for a contemporary look that still feels elegant and personal.

Every detail from paper texture to embellishment helps tell your story. When guests open the envelope, they should instantly feel the atmosphere of your venue, long before they ever see it in person.

Our Favorite Florida Wedding Venues for Luxury Destination Celebrations

We’ve had the joy of creating invitations for couples celebrating their special day at some of Florida’s most beautiful wedding venues.  Each one has its own character and charm.

The Breakers, Palm Beach

The Breakers is a Palm Beach icon known for its grandeur and oceanfront setting. The Italian Renaissance architecture and sweeping ballrooms make it perfect for timeless, glamorous celebrations. Couples love how the sound of the waves and the bright ocean backdrop create a day that feels both elegant and relaxed. The venue also has a wide range of spaces, so if you’re planning an intimate gathering or a large, show-stopping event, each setting has its own unique personality.

The Addison, Boca Raton

A romantic space with historic charm and banyan-shaded courtyards. The Addison blends Old World elegance with South Florida warmth, making it ideal for intimate, candlelit dinners under the stars. The glowing bistro lights and fountains create a cozy, storybook mood in the evenings. With both indoor and outdoor spaces, it’s a flexible setting for weddings of all styles. It’s one of those venues where every corner feels beautiful.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Miami

For couples drawn to art and history, Vizcaya is a dream. Its European-inspired architecture and lush gardens create a cinematic setting for any luxury wedding. With dramatic staircases, waterfront views, and ornate details, the estate feels like stepping into another world. Every backdrop is breathtaking, which is why it’s one of Florida’s most photographed venues.

The Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables

Classic, sophisticated, and full of history. The Biltmore’s Mediterranean architecture and palm-lined courtyards bring a timeless energy that pairs beautifully with letterpress or gold foil invitations. The property offers a range of stunning spaces (from quiet garden spots to grand ballrooms with soaring ceilings) so couples can shape the day around their style. It’s perfect for couples who want a destination wedding in Florida with a bit of vintage charm.

The St. Regis, Bal Harbour

Modern luxury with sweeping ocean views. The St. Regis feels sleek and polished, perfect for a contemporary couple who loves a clean, refined look. The resort offers gorgeous indoor spaces and open-air oceanfront areas, giving you plenty of options for your ceremony and reception. Floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces make the entire experience feel calm, upscale, and effortless. It’s an ideal choice if you want a clean, modern aesthetic with the ocean close by.

It can host up to 250 guests, making it great for both intimate and large celebrations.

Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, Delray Beach

Peaceful and poetic, this venue is ideal for couples who want something intimate and culturally rich. Its gardens inspire minimalist, thoughtful design choices that feel refined and modern. Investment and Guest Experience: Finding the Right Fit

Every venue offers something different in scale, service, and setting. Think in terms of investment and intention. What aspects of your celebration matter most to you?

Maybe it’s guest comfort, a breathtaking view, or a menu that tells a story. Choosing a venue that aligns with your priorities helps create a seamless experience and ensures every detail, including your stationery, feels cohesive.

Common Questions About Planning a Destination Wedding in Florida

Once couples finish narrowing down their venue options, a few practical questions almost always follow. We’ve gathered answers to some of the most common questions we hear from couples planning a destination wedding in Florida.

How far in advance should we book our destination wedding venue in Florida?

We recommend securing your Florida wedding venue at least 12 to 18 months in advance, especially if you’re planning for peak season (November through April). Popular resorts and estates book quickly during those months.

When should we start designing and ordering our wedding invitations for a Florida destination wedding?

We book custom invitation orders about 8 to 10 months before your wedding day, as our design calendar fills quickly. This timeline also ensures you have plenty of time for design, printing, assembly and mailing before guests make their travel plans. Save-the-dates should go out even earlier. Ideally 10 to 12 months ahead so guests can plan travel and accommodations.

Can you help design save-the-dates or day-of stationery to match our invitations?

Absolutely! We love creating cohesive suites that carry your design through every stage of your wedding. From save-the-dates to menus, place cards, and napkins. Every piece is designed to reflect your venue, color palette, and personal style.

The Heart of It All

Choosing the perfect venue for your destination wedding in Florida is about more than scenery. It’s about finding a place that resonates with your love story. Once you’ve found it, every other detail, from the flowers to the stationery, naturally falls into place.

If you’re ready to bring your wedding vision to life, we’d love to help. Explore our custom wedding invitation design, view our Classic Collection, or browse our portfolio for inspiration. Your venue sets the stage. Your invitations tell the story. Together, they create a celebration that feels uniquely you.
